I am glad to announce that Code Complete 4.0 Beta 2.0 is now available for download for subscribers. The final RTM will be released in two weeks time.
What’s New
Code Complete 4.0 includes the following new features:
•Silverlight: Using Code Complete you can now generate fully functional Silverlight applications in minutes
•Business Layer: Support for CSLA.NET and CSLA.NET Light. When you choose to generate a Silverlight application, Code Complete will generate a Silverlight business class library based on the CSLA.NET Light framework.
•Support for Microsoft Enterprise Library 4.1: The validation rules generated by Code Complete use the validation service in the Microsoft Enterprise Library.
•Support for the Entity Framework: Code Complete can now generate a data source project based on an Entity Framework model (Edmx file). For projects generated using EF, Code Complete now will not generate a separate data access layer projects. The code to access and update data is now generated in the business objects data portals.
Installation
•Version 4.0 of Code Complete can run in parallel with the previous versions of Code Complete. It installs in [ProgramFilesFolder]\Eurowise\Code Complete 4.0 by default but you can modify the install path and Code Complete automatically changes the Addin Xml file during the install. No need to change that manually anymore.
•The Code Complete DLLS (CodeCompleteAddin40, CodeComplete.Wizard40, CodeComplete.Services40) and the ADO.NET providers are installed in the GAC.
•The release version of Code Complete will use Activation Keys to activate the full version.
•A shortcut to uninstall Code Complete has been added to the Program Files
Documentation
More tutorials have been added illustrating how to generate Silverlight applications and data source projects from an Entity Framework. In addition, a comprehensive white paper and a data sheet for the XSLT template library are now available for consultation.
